Officers work eight-hour shifts, five days a week, that are staggered in order to maintain 24-hour coverage of the streets. Officers bid on their shift every six months based on seniority. There is currently no reserve officer program.
Officers regularly receive additional updated training from the Ohio Police Officers Training Academy. Most officers are issued a Smith & Wesson Model 4506, which is a 45-caliber, semi-automatic pistol. A few officers have elected to keep their previously issued revolvers.
